According to the New York Times article
Today’s idea: Feminism gets in the way of the study of men, some scholars say — hence the new Male Studies Foundation, which sets the subject apart from feminist theory.
Women get in the way of a completely male dominated educational curriculum?
You want studies of men? Go to kindergarten then all the way through to grade 12. That is the study of men. Oh, but of course this simply isn't enough. We need a Male Studies Foundation for those oppressed and hindered men. They constantly have to put up with feminist theory while trying to enjoy some good ole' manly education. Did everyone forget how incredibly vital this is? There's more to men then we once thought. They not only take up all textbook space, but they also need to teach other boys and men that they are being oppressed by these feminists:
Lionel Tiger, a professor of anthropology at Rutgers University, said the field takes its cues “from the notion that male and female organisms really are different” and the “enormous relation between … a person’s biology and their behavior” that’s not being addressed in most contemporary scholarship on men and boys.
“I am concerned that male-averse attitudes are widespread in the United States and that masculinity is becoming politically incorrect,” said Christina Hoff Sommers, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and author of “The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men.”
The culprit, said Dr. Tiger, is feminism: “a well-meaning, highly successful, very colorful denigration of maleness as a force, as a phenomenon.”
He also adds that is a kind of "Glenn Beck approach", lucky us!
Summarized this dude wants to take a very large step back in time. He wants to remind young boys and girls that men and women are incredibly different. He wants everyone to know that feminists are out to castrate men and deprive them of sexual intercourse. There is such a thing as "Male-averse" attitudes in the US, this according to a woman. Male-Averse in the United States... A place where men run and control the lives of women by clogging up all systems of power. Dr. Tiger wants us to know that this maleness is important, men are born to act like aggressive, tight-mouthed feminist haters. Let no educator talk about social constructs that maintain these male-femaleness mythology! So let's turn back the clock to masculinity being some energizing force that is powerful, forceful and damn-right in charge. Let us trample feminist work, rewire sexism back into the brain's of young boys - all because some schmuck has some pride issues.
History already exists. Want to find some? Blow the dust off any old grade school textbooks, open the first page...did you find it?
