Um, okay, at first I was gonna link to a panel discussion that happened at an atheist conference recently that showed perfectly the kind of misogynist bullshit that happens in secular/atheist circles (the sexism is common but this is just the most recent and most talked about). There has been a lot of buzz recently in the atheist blogosphere about it, mostly missing the point entirely. It was a panel discussing how to make women feel more comfortable in the movement that had a panel of 5 guys and one chick. The discussion quickly turned into why guys hit on women (it's biological!) and that they can't help it so women shouldn't whine about being hit on so much (no, they should be flattered!) and other such horrible sexist drivel. Then one woman stood up (I assume after having heard enough of this sexist male nonsense) and mentioned that she didn't like how women kept being referred to as "females" and "girls" by the panel and the panel (and most of the room) started mocking and laughing at her until one guy on the panel joked, "What? Should we call you the weaker sex?" and the woman started crying and rushed out of the room.

Now here's the video that originally showed the discussion and the way that woman was treated. Seems the organizers of the conference apologized so that means this bit of bullshit gets wiped off the internet. Someone apologized so that means that the secular movement isn't really full of sexist assholes! Yay! >(
Really, I feel like I can't be involved in the secular movement because I'm a feminist and therefore am some sort of crazy man-hating bitch. I mean, these secular guys are so learned and smart and love science so how can we say that they are SEXIST?! Don't we know they're all just Nice Guys (tm) who just like the occasional sexist joke or like to sometimes hit on the women at their meetings. You know, except for the dicks, but you can't yell at the Nice Guys (tm) because f the occasional dicks, right?
Okay, see, I was mostly over this but now I'm fucking pissed that they have decided to erase this. Swept the sexism under the rug. Apologized for and forgotten. Well I bet that woman who got laughed out of the room isn't laughing or forgetting and I know I sure as hell won't forget about it anytime soon.
