Canada Day under the Harper Regime

It is Canada Day today and with a Harper majority government, I am not so proud to be Canadian. The union-busting of late, the bloodshed in Libya and the lack of responsibility for dealing with asbestos has created a Canada unworthy of much praise.

Also, nationalism smells bad.

Regardless, my ass will still be planted in a grassy park somewhere absorbing some festivities for the day. Enjoying the festivities not because they are part of the Canada Day itinerary but rather because they are free and provide this boner killer with much needed photography time.

Despite my current feelings, one can remember when Canada Day used to feel worthy of some kind of celebration. For instance, our health care or whatever is left of it, remained to be a celebration point, but sadly the current reality has made that a difficult task, especially under the uber-oppressive Harper regime.

Oh, and the anti-abortion groups usually infest the streets on this day, with their blood-drenched propaganda of dismembered fetuses. Perhaps there will be Canada Day Confrontations, too!

  1. Glad to see that I'm not the only one who didn't give a crap that it was Canada Day yesterday. Now, I didn't actually join in on any festivities yesterday... but, I would've only gone to mooch off of their free food.

I really do wish I could say that I was proud to be Canadian, but I can't.
