DSM-V Presents "Paraphilic Coercive Disorder"

Paraphilic Coercive Disorder is said to appear in the new DSM. This is newspeak for people who get off on rape; in thought and in practice. First of all, for those of you who do not follow the psychologist's bible - the DSM, or the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, let me explain. The purpose of the DSM is to provide psychiatrists and even those without ability to diagnose, like family doctors with a specific criteria for specific mental disorders. This manual is obviously useful for various illnesses, such as diagnosing schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder and so forth. However, it can be dangerous as every few years the manual is "revised" and new disorders are established, many of them grasping at straws. People are becoming more and more medication and medicated as BigPharma becomes evermore imposing.Allegedly, one of these new disorders to appear in the DSM is shyness. Shyness would be medicalized, it would become a disorder. 

However, I must digress. 

There is another, more troubling diagnosis in this new edition that could help rapists plead "insanity" in court - yes, you read correctly, rapists or those who generally get off on non consensual sex now have a distressing and unbearable medical disorder. This is not a cruel joke or a tall tale, this is an unfortunate reality. This is also an attempt to make rape a "mental disorder." This is a purely constructed and created "disorder" with highly dangerous and possibly destructive consequences for women, who already carry the burden of blame on an institutional level for violence committed against them.

According to a American Psychiatric Association on the DSM-V website (you can read about it in full on the site) this is the basic definition of this new rapist "disorder"

Paraphilic Coercive Disorder

A.    Over a period of at least six months, recurrent, and intense sexual arousal from sexual coercion, as manifested by fantasies, urges, or behaviors. [23]

B.     The person has clinnically significant distress or impairment in important areas of functioning, or has sought sexual stimulation from forcing sex on three or more nonconsenting persons on separate occasions. [24]

C.     The diagnosis of Paraphilic Coercive Disorder is not made if the patient meets criteria for a diagnosis of Sexual Sadism Disorder.[25]

In Remission (No Distress, Impairment, or Recurring Behavior and in an Uncontrolled Environment): State duration of remission in months:____

In a Controlled Environment

All of this psychological classification really translates into rapists possibly being seen as "victims" and less blamable for their behavior. Institutionally speaking, this may mean that rapists could be considered less responsible under the law since they are considered to have a "disorder" that causes them to rape or enjoy rape and violence. This alleviation of responsibility would likely turn a horrible event like rape into an even more mortifying experience for the victim. Moreover, the victims of rape (predominantly women and children) will endure more stigma, more trauma and more oppression on a global scale. 


This "revision" is another manifestation of rape culture. This "revision" normalizes the rape epidemic and further forces women as a class to find their place at the bottom of the social hierarchy once again, not that we ever moved up very far to begin with. This "diagnostic criteria" which is used by thousands of psychologists and psychiatrists to socially brand people will be horribly influential on society. It will lead to even more victim blaming and even less rapist responsibility and less stigma attached to rape itself.

I always get a couple of spam comments that drive me up the wall. Today I had one telling me that watching pornography has no ties to rape, in fact, pornography actually decreases incidents of rape! 


According to this statement, men, if they are not provided with imagery of women being sexualized in some way or another, will be more likely to rape women! Apparently, if men are shown pornography, they will relieve themselves of their prodding inner rapist. This statement not only categorizes all men as hateful, misogynistic and selfish but it also perpetuates ideas about women's lack of sexual agency. 


To suggest that one's pornography use has no effect on one's behavior is just silly. Everything we view has an impact on some emotion or thought that crosses our mind at some point or another. When someone is viewing pornography, they are deliberately watching it; it's not as though they glimpsed at a television ad earlier in the day and subconsciously took in a message. Watching pornography effects one's emotions by targeting their sexual responses and providing physical arousal. Physical arousal is a central  component in creating sexual pleasure and pleasure often helps create behaviors. For example, if you eat a very tasty cake, you want to eat it again because it gave you sensual pleasure of some kind. Or take another example, you start taking yoga classes and the yoga makes you feel good because of the chemicals that get released, so you keep going back to the yoga classes. This is a direct behavioral effect produced by an emotion caused by physical pleasure. This is basic classic learning theory, we're not making it up! 


Most brains are affected by orgasm, sexual arousal and sexual desire. Most people who take part in watching pornography do so because they enjoy the sexual release they experience while watching it. Something in the material turns them on, they are not repulsed by it. The images of a woman being gagged with a penis or called a bitch or whore are not repulsive to most viewers of pornography. Some think their pleasure overrides the message that the image or video sends out - that dominating women is good. Pornography attempts to offer people unattainable and fantasy-like sexual experiences without actually having to be sexual with another person. This influences people's ideas about their own bodies, sexualities and relationships because it lends the idea that women and men are always in power struggles and always perpetuating harmful gender roles. Pornography limits free sexuality by producing a packaged, corporate version of human intimacy. Pornography is capitalism gone wild. It sells one idea of human sexuality to the masses, one based on inequality, degradation, dehumanization and violence. It sells the idea that women are always sexually available; unable to get enough of pleasing men. The images shown in pornography illustrate unequal power dynamics, archaic gender roles and violence against women. Pornography normalizes these dangerous issues.


Yet some tell me that pornography has no impact on behavior? 


Sexual arousal that leads to orgasm can often lead to conditioning behaviors. It is so bloody simple to see the connection between viewing violent, rape-promoting material and then attempting to act out the same sexual scenarios with other people, consensual or not. Since pornography shows women being called "whores" and "sluts", makes "rape porn" genre films and shows men gagging women with their penises, it teaches viewers, with the power of conditioning, that a woman's consent is secondary and she is not fully human.

Rapists and Racist Misogynists: Rant on Hollywood Male Privilege

This will be my first rant post. I’m quite excited. So Roman Polanski will not be extradited – lucky him, lucky fucking rapist. From watching any of this guy’s interviews on the topic, he shows he lacks any real remorse. He seems to actually play victim, oh he was taken away from his home, and had to live in exile (my ass) this guy was living in the lap of luxury!

But, boo hoo he couldn’t accept an award he won for a film. Who gives a shit that he raped a child, right? It was SO long ago, we should just get over it, right? WRONG. What example is this setting for Hollywood? Anyone who makes a million dollars from a film can get away with sexually abusing women…yeah, really shows the privilege that these pricks in Hollywood have. Now we have Mel Gibson threatening the life of his ex wife, constantly telling her to blow him and that she’s a “fucking cunt” – but oh the media picked this up and claimed “his ex wife might be trying to get money from him!” I would hope so! I would try to get money from a prick who admitted to hitting me and breaking my teeth while I was holding a child – I would try to sue the asshole who threatened my life. I hope his career rots, I hope people stop renting his films and supporting him. I really hope this time Hollywood will wake the fuck up. I mean, we already know he’s an anti-Semite piece of shit, and Hollywood still licked his ass. What does it take? Now we know he’s a racist, misogynistic and violent sociopath – will that be enough?

What is enough for Hollywood? Really? I mean, if raping a 13 year old girl can still get you making movies and living in the lap of luxury, it really says a lot. People try to paint these stars as “average people” who get treated the same as everyone else (minus the fact that they earn unnecessary amounts of money and live with obvious privilege) This is rich, white male privilege at it’s peak – Hollywood loves it. These assholes need to be treated like anyone else would in this situation – they need to be held accountable by EVERYONE, and that means to stop supporting them.

Ah, I feel much better.

Spot on the Ear Means Freedom for Rapists in Vietnam

“The spots should have disappeared if they had had sex.” This is a statement by an acupuncturist that sealed the release of three convicted rapists in Vietnam. Pham Thi Hong declared the men imprisoned for rape were virgins because they had specific spots on their ears. She claims that since the spots remain, the men could not have possibly committed the rape. These absurd statements actually freed these men in Vietnam, one of the convicted man’s lawyers stated, "Thanks to her efforts, investigators revisited the case which otherwise could have been buried.” His client was imprisoned for gang raping a 20 year old woman in 2000. Hong even threatened to light herself on fire in attempts to reopen the case.

What frightens me is that this completely non-scientific, nearly mythological “diagnosis” was actually taken seriously. Not only was it taken seriously – these convicted rapists were let out of prison! Is rape so unimportant that it can be pushed under the rug over a spot on a man’s ear? It’s obscene! Where is the justice for the 20 year old woman?

Of course, she must be a liar, There was a spot on a man’s ear, she is a liar!

It sickens me to know this sort of thing is happening right now in our world – dangerous men are being treated as innocent victims. What else is astonishingly horrific is that the key to their freedom was held by a woman.
