Canada Day under the Harper Regime

It is Canada Day today and with a Harper majority government, I am not so proud to be Canadian. The union-busting of late, the bloodshed in Libya and the lack of responsibility for dealing with asbestos has created a Canada unworthy of much praise.

Also, nationalism smells bad.

Regardless, my ass will still be planted in a grassy park somewhere absorbing some festivities for the day. Enjoying the festivities not because they are part of the Canada Day itinerary but rather because they are free and provide this boner killer with much needed photography time.

Despite my current feelings, one can remember when Canada Day used to feel worthy of some kind of celebration. For instance, our health care or whatever is left of it, remained to be a celebration point, but sadly the current reality has made that a difficult task, especially under the uber-oppressive Harper regime.

Oh, and the anti-abortion groups usually infest the streets on this day, with their blood-drenched propaganda of dismembered fetuses. Perhaps there will be Canada Day Confrontations, too!

Harper's Power Trip

Harper is "legislating" striking workers "back to work" and "prostitution may become legitimate business in Canada"

Under Harper's regime, it's all about destroying unions and slashing worker's rights and putting women back in their "place"

Welcome to the post-election, authoritarian disaster that Canada is becoming.

Harper Intent On Ruining Canada

Just thinking about Stephen Harper's desire to guide Canada into a "Conservative direction" makes me truly terrified. Terrified for human beings but terrified more for women and any non-heterosexual people.

Terrified, horrified, mortified, petrified for the safety of our food, earth, and standard of life.

Canada: It's okay to buy women and use them as sex toys, but you can't smoke marijuana!!

Recently, the province of Ontario has decided to change up the law surrounding prostitution. When it was first announced a few women who took the case to court to be re-examined were celebratory and declared "emancipation day" for sex workers.

However, the law will not automatically allow brothels to open and operate like they do in the Netherlands and in Vegas. This could happen, but not for a few years. I'm not sure i want to be part of a country that sells women on the street and the government makes money off pimps. I'm not sure i want to be a part of a country that thinks selling women as sex toys is okay but having a marijuana cookie could land you jail time. I mean, come on.

Stephen Harper recently has put forth a bill that will actually put people in jail for up to 18 months for making a pot cookie. I don't know why this is different than smoking a joint in Harper's eyes, but it is somehow. Harper also wants to put people in jail for a disgusting amount of time if they have 6 or more marijuana plants. But it's okay for people to be sold on the street.

I hate the government here under Stephen Harper, he's a die hard conservative christian with a pathetic agenda. Nothing screams right wing, woman-hating agenda more than giving males a right away to buy women (which will lead to more children being targeted, too) and putting people in jail who are NOT criminals for smoking a plant. But no no, it's all fine and dandy, you get your guns, your unlimited access to the bodies of women and children and a whole lot of alcohol (because that's way safer than marijuana and doesn't lead to death or anything) to drink instead of having a couple of joints on the weekend.

The logic of conservatives is tremendously flawed and forever inspired by their sucking on the teat of capitalism.

If Canada opens up brothels and because a hot spot for sex tourism, I'm going to opt for Sweden or Iceland.
